A Conversation With The Reckless About The Band and Their New Single 'Get Loud'

ree

Where are you from & how did you begin to find your style or path of music you wanted to make?

The Reckless started in San Diego CA. I, Fritz Fayman, originally started the project during COVID but it went through many iterations before it got to where it is today. I had members who were leaving due to work, school, or moving. It was very difficult to find an established group. It was mainly just what I liked at first as no one stayed long enough to add their style to the band. When I started making music I always wanted to be in a band where everyone contributed, as I knew I wasn’t a perfect songwriter, so I was looking for people who would be actively engaged.

Our first of our current, core members to join was Michael Kennedy, our bass player. He was in some other bands but liked our sound and was happy to join after our previous bass player left. The next key ingredient added to the pot was our drummer Riku Myllykoski. The last, and most current new member, is John Kelly. All of these guys have been actively involved in the songwriting process and always adding their ideas and we all do a really good job of hearing each other out and adjusting.

What influences were a part of that direction? (Genres / Musicians / Locations Etc…)

We are influenced a lot by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tool, Led Zeppelin, Foo Fighters, Rise Against and many others. We are always getting influenced by new music. We are working on an EP where the different songs have influences ranging from blink-182 and Rage Against the Machine, to Fleetwood Mac and The Eagles. We are always listening and learning and new ideas and song goals are set. Our goal is to not put ourselves in a box. If we think it sounds good, then we do it. Doesn’t matter to us if it seems too hard or too pop. As long as it develops into something we are proud of. It all combines into a rock sound that is both familiar yet still entirely its own.

How would you describe your sound / techniques of singing / producing / playing?

I would describe our sound as rock. Plain and simple. I like to think we encompass all forms of rock music and we have something any rock lover would love. If you like a more indie/alternative rock sound, you might really like ‘Only One or My Life’. If you like Punk then you probably would really like ‘Darling Please’ or ‘Rotten Love’. If you like Hard Rock you would probably like ‘Away and Fall’. Our goal when making songs is to make them fun, thoughtful, dynamic, and professional.

When producing, we always strive improve each recording, hopefully sounding better than the last. We want our music to sound modern yet still very grounded with real instruments and vocal performances. When I sing I always try to portray emotion whether it be anger, remorse, excitement, or whatever else I’m trying to portray with the lyrics. In future projects, we are looking to continue growth with harmonies and backup vocals. We all have singing talent and ability so we need to find ways to utilize them.

What are you currently working on / excited about coming up?

Our new song 'Get Loud' releases tomorrow, March 15th which we are excited for the world to hear! We also have an EP coming out later this year which we are stoked for. All those songs on the EP are awesome and different than what we have done but definitely still have a reckless sound. I think one of the songs, ‘Remember Me’, might end up being my favorite song we release. I’m also excited about our release of ‘Sexy Back’. It is a live staple at our shows and we know our fans have been requesting it so we are excited to finally be working on it. We also are working on more live shows and a summer tour so definitely stay tuned for that!
